Today's Big Stuff

It's Monday. There are 106 days until the presidential election. Chris Wallace embarrasses Trump and the rest of the Washington press corps, how Trump let the virus win and mourning a giant.

Note: Hey, good lookin'. Whatcha got cookin' this week? Beating back Trump and facism? Cool cool cool. That's what we're planning to do too. How was your weekend? Did you put on the wrong color human mask and go for a surf? Did you stand on stage and attack Harriet Tubman before sobbing uncontrollably? If you answered yes to either question, then you might be part of America's billionaire problem. Seriously. What are we supposed to do with these ultra rich super morons who are determined to wreck this country? Actually, Kanye is a disaster. We're not even making jokes about it anymore. Poor dude clearly doesn't have any friends who can get him help. It's all just sad and gross to watch. As for Zuckerberg, well, we want more pictures that show how creepy he is. Because this country will put up with a lot -- destroying our democracy, lying to us about climate change, propping up hate groups -- but we sure as hell won't take that shit from an amateur mime. More: Associated Press, NY Post

Note two: Fifty-one years ago today, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walked on the moon. Now we can't even go to the fucking Bahamas. Maybe all that television and candy did rot our brains. How else did we get so dumb so fast? More: Miami Herald

Note three: Wait a minute. Roger Stone is a racist piece of human garbage? Who could've guessed except everyone who knows even a little bit about him. More: The Daily Beast

Note four: This is pretty horrifying. More: NY Daily News

Note five: It's like there's a contest to see who can kill the most of their constituents and guys like this asshole are trying to catch up to Trump, DeSantis and Abbot. More: STL Today

Note six: Why would a reporter ask the president if he'll accept the results of an election? Is that an option our constitution gives presidents? Of course not. We're gonna praise Wallace in a second like everyone else did, but this shit needs to stop. It's like the "will you fire Mueller" question again. Stop giving this asshole authority he doesn't have.

Note seven: We were gonna put Portland in the news section, but we couldn't wait. This is some really scary shit. Trump took his D.C. facism to Portland, and his goons are threatening to take it nationwide. Mothers are out there trying to protect protesters and getting gassed by the federal government. Protesters are being thrown into unmarked vans. Protesters are told that if they follow the vans, they'll be shot. A Navy veteran was beaten on camera. And DHS's Chad Wolf, a small little man who likes dressing in camouflage and kissing Trump's ass, said this on Fox this morning: "I don't need invitations by the state, state mayors or state governors to do our job. We're going to do that whether they like us or not." So um where the fuck are all the libertarians we heard so much about during the Obama years? This shit is damn scary, and we have no intention of just lying down. We're standing with you, Portland. Be brave. Be smart. Be safe. And be a pain in the ass to the scumbags who have forgotten what country this is. More: Buzzfeed News, Associated Press, Washington Post, Washington Post II, Oregon Live

Note eight: We hope y'all had a wonderful weekend, and we hope this Monday doesn't suck more than usual. Hope you folks are keeping your heads up and fighting the good fight. God knows this shit can be exhausting. Hang in there! Love y'all!

Fox blues

As you're probably seen by now, Trump got his lunch eaten by Chris Wallace this weekend, as the Fox anchor called Trump on his cognitive test bullshit and a host of other issues. While there were more important parts of the interview, we could not stop laughing when Wallace was talking about how the cognitive test just has you count backwards from 100 by 7, and as Trump was stammering and trying to defend himself, Wallace just very casually said "93." It was like something out of Spinal Tap, and if it wasn't for all the death and stupidity, we'd still be laughing. The really messed up thing is that we've been at this for years, and this was the first interview to take on Trump's endless lies to the American people. Why? Isn't that why the press is there to begin with? Hopefully enough MSM types have been thoroughly embarrassed by Wallace's willingness to ask real questions that they'll be shamed into doing their jobs. How Trump lost to the virus

With so much major news popping this weekend, it would have been easy to miss the major pieces the NYT and WaPo did looking in depth at Trump's failures on COVID. These are both jaw-dropping reports that should be the end of the Trump administration. The NYT piece paints an especially damning portrait of Dr. Birx, who apparently has been telling the White House for months that the battle was over. Unfortunately, we still have months to go until the election, and House Democrats went ahead and clocked out early. And now Trump is trying to cut funding for testing from the next rescue bill. What the fuck is happening here?! The bottom line is that we are on our own. Wear a mask, and look out for each other. More: Washington Post, Washington Post II

A light gone out

We don't know really what else to say about John Lewis except the world seems like a worse and less hopeful place without him in it. The more we lose leaders like this, the more we lose our national soul. This one really hurts. More: Washington Post, The Undefeated
